Ashley Shin writes the following about Hatchet :
I really enjoyed reading this book. At first, it seemed a little boring and dull, but as I read deeply into the fights between Brian and nature, it got better and better. It was really interesting and made me feel like I was really in the Brian's situation. If I really was in Brian's situation, left in the wilderness with just one hatchet, I would have not been able to survive. Thanks for Mr. Paulsen who gave us teenagers this amazing story, and I'd like to recommend this book to people who feel not satisfied with themselves. If they read this, they'll problably feel like they have the best life in the entire world! Let's feel happy that we're able to sleep in a cozy bed, eat hot food, and bath whenever we want.
