chelsea bivens writes the following about The Giver :

okay.. jonas and his family live in a very nice community they have to share there dreams and there feelings cause where they live they don't have any feelings jonas was happy when he was about to advance to the 12's and then when he was at the cermony of 12's the man talking skipped over his name his was worried but didn't say anything but then he apoligzed to the community and he gave him the reciver of memory and then he finally meet the giver and one day he asked the giver to give him all of his pains and in his community they didn't have pain he couldn't take medince for anything like illness but he can lie he couldn't talk about his training to anyone but i really was a good book.
