Harriet writes the following about Hatchet :

This was the worst book I've ever read in my life. I hate books about survival so this one was horrible. I'm a girl and it was a boy book so it was really boring. I couldn't connect with the book at all. I only read it because I had to read it for school. if i didn't have to read it for school I would have stopped reading the book after the first chapter. I don't think that schools should have to make anybody read this book because it was so boring. I mean I didn't even think this book is close to nonfiction because somethings are so fictional. If you are a girl please don't read this book.
