Abbey writes the following about The Giver :

I loved this book! It was very mature and a little confusing but once you got into to it you got evey word. I didn't really enjoy the ending there though. It was a cliff hanger at the end of the story?,but our teacher explained to us the author did that to encourage you to read the sequal. So today I went ot library got the sequal and I've began to read it! So I'll let y'all know if the sequal is any good or not!!!!! Love Abbey
