Erin Dougherty writes the following about The Giver :

The Giver Book Review If you are interested in fiction or fantasy, The Giver is the book for you. This book is about Jonas, who lives in a “perfect” community and receives the most honored job in “The Community”. After a year of training Jonas realizes that his community is not so perfect. There are no feelings, colors, or love and Jonas wants those things. When Jonas is through with this “perfect” life he wants to change, but doesn't have the courage until his father does something totally unexpected. This is what I think Lois Lowry's message is in this book, to speak up! In my opinion I think the author made the setting the best literary element because, she created her own world and jobs.
