Charles Adams writes the following about The Giver :
This is a book review over The Giver. This book was written by Lois Lowry. I think the author’s purpose for writing The Giver was to tell the readers that if you set your mind to something you can do it. I agree with the author because if you don’t believe you can do something and you put yourself down you are never going to accomplish what you want. I think the literary element that the writer used the best was the setting. I chose this because she wrote about a perfect community. There is nothing wrong, but the perfect community has its disadvantages.
The main character is Jonas. I would probably let him help me create a new society. He doesn’t obey the rules that are in his community and he doesn’t really want a perfect community. He doesn’t really get why the community is missing thing that he doesn’t think will hert people. If the ideas are bad the Giver will tell why. He agrees with the Giver because he has never lived outside of his perfect community.
The community is less than perfect because if a receiver dies he will lose all of the memories to the community. When the memories go to the community they all freak out and they don’t know what to do. They have never experienced the bad or good memories so they get scared. They don’t know what failing is or the feeling of discouragement is. To fix the problem all the author would have had to do was make it to where the memories came back to one person or in a certain place besides the community. Then the community would be all the way perfect.
You would love this book if you always liked to be at the edge of you seat with anticipation. The Giver always is exiting and I would recommend this book very highly. The entertainment value that I vote for is great because I am one of those people.
