Lois Lowry's novel THE GIVER is a small book with a powerful message. She creates a world in which every aspect of their lives are controlled birth, death, climate, jobs, and even spouses. The people in the society have no memory of history it's happiness, pleasure, and pain. They select a receiver to bear the memories. They select a boy, Jonas, to be the new receiver.
Lois Lowry's message is that even in a if you have no empathy for people, if you don't care the world is chaotic. Her book makes you think about what it would be like if the world was like that. The book is horrifying and exciting and hard to put down. Throughout the book you become atached to Jonas because he is so lovable. The ending of the book was unsatisfying but, altogether it is a great book that anyone would love. I think if I were to catagorize this book I'd say it would be for analytical and insightful people. If I were to rate this book I'd give it four stars.
