I found the book The Giver to be fairly decent. The characters were understandable, and the main character, Jonas, was easy to find. The storyline was simple yet enjoyable. But I think that The Giver is aimed at a pre-teen audience because the author uses some advanced vocabulary.
I thought that the descriptions gave good mental images, but personally, I could've used more dialog. But the wording was good and the plot was interesting. The purpose, I think, was to show the importance of love and memories in a civilization. In a nutshell, it was....a decent read. The Giver by Lois Lowry is worth reading.
