I agree with Stephanie, this is a pretty good book. I also didn't put it down until I'd read to the end. Definately fantasy, if you're into suspending your disbelief for a while, you will probably enjoy this story.
Set in the days of kings and queens, this is a refreshing twist on the traditional fairy tale, Cinderella. Written from Ella?s perspective, this story explores the subservient role traditionally attributed to Cinderella. Although I loved the Cinderella story as a child, as I got older I really didn?t like her because she was so complacent. This Ella is great! She?s spunky willful and bright. Our heroine is courageous and selfless - a great character for girls to identify with. The Prince?s character is more developed in this version as well. Rather than being a chauvinist, empty-headed bauble admirer like the traditional version?s Prince, Char demonstrates integrity & has a well developed personality. Relationships are given time to grow naturally, with insights from characters other than Ella cleverly facilitated through a magic fairy book. While maintaining the traditional fairy tale motif and style, this story also provides healthy examples of personal development, friendship, and love.
