Samantha writes the following about The Giver :
Jonas perfect life couldn't get any better. He didn't have any choices or feelings. Everything was done for him. the ceremony of the 12 approached for Jonas as he waited to get his job. The day has finally arrived the ceremony of the 12 was here. As he sat there and watched all of his friends get there job assignments he wondered why they had skipped over his number,19. By the end of the ceremony he still had not been assigned his job. but then the chief elder made an annoucement that he had been chosen for the most honorable job in the commounity, the reciever of memory. Why him he though? as he continues life with this knowledge that he is receiving for his assignment of Reciever of Memory, his life is changing day by day and his mind expands.

As you read in this book life in Sameness isnt meshing for Jonas. He is finally figuring the true aspects of life. When he has become the Reciever of Memory everythign changes he gets insight to the past, but yet he can not explain it to any one in the community it is incunsumable to his friends, family ,and the whole community what he can see, hear, and feel. As he struggles through life with these gifts of the past he is getting more and more fed up with the choices the elders have made for their commmunity. He takes a stand.

HOW THIS BOOK IS LIKE OTHERS: This year I have many books from the Series of Unfortunate Events. These books are alike and different in many ways to The Giver. In both of these books they make you want to read and aren't that hard to understand. In both of these wonderful books they have great characters that are not afraid of events that they are faced with in their lifetime. I would say that The Series Of Unfortunate Events and The Giver are the best book I have read this year.

The Giver and the Series of Unfortunate Events have some differences alos. The Giver is more of a science fiction novel and the Series Of Unfortunate Events I would consider it mystery/adventure. Futhermore in the Series Of Unfortunate Events the setting is present day and in The Giver it takes place in sometime in the future in a different type of society. Nevertheless in the Series of Unfortunate Events they are living with feeling and choices, but they think life is horrible because there parents have died, but never would think that one day they would be living without any of there things in life that they have taken for granite in a world of Sameness like in The Giver.

RATING AND WHY: I would rare this book on a scale 1-10 an 8.5. I think it isn't quite as good as it could be but yet an excellent book. Jonas has a great personality and great features. I would recommend this to any of my friends because it's a book that will make you read and keep you guessing till the very end. Nevertheless this book shows many qualities that I have never read before. This book is the kind of book that you want to stay up all night and read. This one of the best books I have read and would advise you to read it.

HOW THIS BOOK WAS SO GREAT: I really enjoyed reading The Giver. I liked how the book was writen with so much detail. Futheremore, I think it was written fantastic till the very end. this book makes you want to read. The ending of this book is really good. I like how Jonas personality was very persistent and brave. I only have one minor suggestion for this book. That they make it a series!! I would totally read them all and bet you would too! this book was written perfect.. I like how the book ended and wouldn't change it. I thnk you should read this book.
