Joe Dirt writes the following about Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Book 1) :

Harry Potter has always been a normal person, or so he thought. When he gets a letter in the mail, he is shocked to see that he is invited to a wizarding school called Hogwarts. The Dursleys, Harry?s aunt and uncle, won?t let him go, so they try to get away from all of the letters being sent to them, so they go to an island in the middle of nowhere and that?s when Hagrid, the groundskeeper of Hogwarts comes to get Harry and wish him a Happy Birthday. He gives Harry a birthday cake, and Dudley, Harry?s cousin who is the same age as him but spoiled tries to take it, when Hagrid puts a pigs tail on him. The next day Hagrid takes Harry to London to get his school supplies. While in London they go to a wizard bank called Gringott?s to get Harry money to buy school supplies. While at Gringotts Hagrid has to do something for Dumbledore, the head of Hogwarts. When they get to the vault, Hagrid gets a little package out and puts it in his pocket. When they are done in London, Hagrid gives Harry his train ticket to go to school. When the day Harry has to board the train comes, Harry can?t find the platform, when he meets a wizard family who helps him find it. When Harry gets on the train he sits with Ron Weasley, who is one of the son?s of the wizard family who helped him find the platform. When Harry gets to Hogwarts he is put in the Gryffindor house with Ron. One day during one of his classes when they were flying around on broomsticks, somebody falls off his broom and the teacher must bring him to the hospital wing. She tells them not to fly or they will get expelled. The boy that fell off his broom, Neville Longbottom, dropped his Remembrall, and a mean kid throws it and Harry flies after it and catches it. Harry was surprised he did it because it was his first time on a broom. When he did that one of the teachers saw him, and went out and got him, and he met the captain of the Gryffindor Quidditch team and is the new seeker for the team. While at Hogwarts Harry learns spells to cast with his wand and has many strange experiences. One was when hagrid got a dragons egg and harry had to help keep it a secret. Another was when a troll got into the school and Harry fought it and won. During the Christmas holiday Harry stays at the school and is sent his dad?s invisibility cloak that Harry?s dad gave Dumbledore before he died. He uses it to sneak around the school at night, and he finds a room and there is a mirror in there, and when he looks into it he sees him and his family standing there. He keeps going there and one night Dumbledore is in the room and he tells Harry he is wasting his time because it is not real and many people have wasted a lot their life staring at it. Dumbledore moves it to a safer area and tells Harry not to go looking for it. One night when Harry is walking around he finds a corridor that is off-limits and he opens the door and when he gets in he finds a big three-headed dog guarding a trap door. He asks Hagrid about the dog and Hagrid accidentally tells Harry that he is guarding the sorcerer?s stone and the only way to get past the dog is by playing a flute to put it to sleep. Harry hears Professor Quirrel is trying to find the stone so he tells Ron and Hermoine about it and they follow him and they get to the dog, they find he is barely asleep and the trapdoor is opened. Will they get to Quirrel in time before he gets the sorcerer?s stone, and will the Gryffindor?s win the house cup?
The main characters are Harry who is the boy who lived, Ron who is a friend Harry met on the train to Hogwarts, Hermoine is a girl in the Gryffindor house who hangs out with Harry and Ron. Some more main characters are Dumbledore who is the head master at Hogwarts, and Hagrid who is the groundskeeper and is also a friend of Harry?s. People that would enjoy this book are people that enjoy reading fiction books that involve mysteries. The genre is fiction. The theme of the book is keep on keeping on.
