Gracie writes the following about The Giver :

I think Lois Lowry's message was things are better when things are different. I think Lois Lowry handled the setting best. She greatly described the community and I think that helped create "The Community" in people's mind. Jonas was the main character in the book. I would want Jonas to help create a new society. I feel Jonas understands that in order for people to be happy they need to be different from everyone else. They need to have their own opinions and characteristics. I thought the ending of the book was too open ended and I would have created an actual ending, not just left it open. I think a person with a good imagination would enjoy this book more than others. Overall, I think the book was not necissaraley ruined by the ending but it could have been better.
