Nick Morefield writes the following about The Giver :

I found the book, The Giver, by Lois Lowry, to be boring. The plot did not change very much through out the book. I think the author's purpose for writing this story was to show that there is no such thing as a perfect world. I believe the best literary element she used were her characters. They each had their own interesting personality. There were no exciting moments that made me want to turn to the next page. I believe this may be her writing style, but I like reading a book that I just can't put down. I would not recommend this book to anyone.
