One word to describe this book would be interesting. I liked the Utopia/Dystopia aspect of the book because it showed that even though you try so hard to make something perfect, and think it is perfect, it never will be. I didn't like how we didn't really get to know the other characters beside Jonas and The Giver because I think it would've been more interesting to be able to see other people's views of the community and lives. The most interesting character in the book was Jonas because he started out as a normal citizen of the community, then completely turned around and hated pretty much everything about his society. I've learned from reading this book that no matter what, nothing can be perfect. I've also learned how much pain the past can cause people. And lastly, that you should always stand up for what you believe in. I would read other books by this author. If The Giver is part of a series, I would like to read the rest of the series.
