Story Rating
8.7 out of a possible 10.0

Chris Heldman writes the following about The Giver :
The book "The Giver" Is a mystery and a fantasy. It is about a boy who
grows up in a community that is a utopia. The main character is named Jonas and he is different from the others in the community except for two other people: the Giver and a child named Gabriel.

I gave this book an 8.7 because it has many things I like, but a few things I dislike. I liked the part of the book where Jonas sees beyond for the first time because it incorporated mystery into the book. I also liked when he arrived in nature for he first time. Overall my favorite part is when Jonas receives the memory of love and Christmas. There were some things I disliked, however. One of these things is when Jonas learns what release really is. One other thing I disliked is when Jonas starts to starve and freeze. Lastly, I did not like the cliffhanger at the end not telling the rest of the story.

This book could have been improved by finishing the ending, not making the release so horrifying and making the death drug not painful.

Even though this book could be improved and I have some dislikes about it, I would still recommend it to anyone interested in fantasy or mystery.
