Nick W writes the following about The Giver :

The Giver started out relativly slow, it does get way better however. In the beginning it introduces all of the characters, what the setting is, and what goes on around the community. Jonas is the main character and he is going to be receiveing his life assasignment at the ceremony of 12. He gets selected to be reciever and his life gets turned around. He gets feelings and the ability to see colors. He can not share his life with anyone though, so he makes a plan to escape the community and go "ElseWhere".
