Julia Dukes writes the following about sounder :
With a smart dog and faithful master, nothing could go wrong. Until, the boy's father is captured by the sherriff. Sounder went racing after him but was shot.He lost a leg and a ear. For days and nights the boy went out looking for Sounder, but he wasn't found. He left food out every night waiting for him to come home.Meanwhile, the father still in jail. Sounder came home injured. The father finally was able to come home because he was weak. He told his family he wouldn't live much longer. And so as he said he died. Shortly after, Sounder, crawled under the cabin and peacefully died.
Although this book is sad, it was very well written.
