Cayley and Madison writes the following about The Giver :
Jonas is a young boy who is almost about to become a Twelve. Everything in his community goes the way it should. There are no problems, wars or fights, and lots of rules that the members of the community must abide by. The Ceremony of the Twelves in December is approaching the community. Every year, each Eleven becomes a Twelve and their “Assignment” or “Job” is chosen for them. Jonas is very nervous because he does not know what the Committee of Elders will choose. Eventually, the day of the ceremony comes and Jonas is selected to be the communities Receiver. This assignment means that he has the capacity to “see beyond.” He has to train with the previous Receiver known as the Giver. Jonas has to face many struggles and learns about many things he never knew existed, while he trains with the Giver.
We would rate this book as an 8 out of 10. The characters, settings, and events that take place in the book are very interested and detailed.
We would definitely recommend this book to others. It is a great book and it explains different ways of living life. We also recommend the book because it is on a 7th grade reading level.
