Melissa P. and Nicolette R. writes the following about The Giver :
This book is about a boy named Jonas. Jonas is nervous because he is about to become a twelve, and he will soon receive his assignment, which he will do for the rest of his life. The committee of elders will assign Jonas his job. Jonas lives in a different community then we do. The community does not see color, however Jonas begins to see beyond. When the ceremony comes, they skip his name, which is very unusual. Finally they give him the job as the receiver of memory. While his other friends are assigned with normal jobs such as he assistant director of recreation and a caretaker for the old, Jonas is place in a very difficult situation. Jonas and his trainer develop a plan to help save the community from sameness. As Jonas sets out on his dangerous mission, he suddenly sees that there is more to life then his strange life he always knew. We enjoyed the book, however it was a little confusing. The ending left us hanging so we decided to rate this book an eight. We would recommend this book to others, it kept our attention and I would recommend it to any other readers boy or girl.
