Kyla and Deanna writes the following about The Giver :
The novel The Giver was a very interesting story that taught me a lot. The story was about a young boy name Jonas and his life in a community where love, pain, and choosing your own freedom is not a decision that youíre allowed to make on your own. The main characters in the novel were Jonas, The Giver, Fiona, Lily, Gabriel,Jonas' parent and Asher. In this community where choices arenít necessary, each person is giving a job at the age of 12 that they will do for their entire life. Fiona, a friend of Jonas was entitled as care taker of the elders in her community, Asher, Jonasís best friend was assigned Co-assistant of Recreation, and Jonas himself was selected The receiver of memoryÖ one of the most important jobs in his community. As the receiver he holds wisdom, bravery, and knowledge of the past that only him and a few others in his community even know of. Memories such as animals, love, starvation, and war are not visible to the minds of Jonasís community. Only The Giver and himself (who is his instructor) know these things, and can see color, hear music, and are allowed to know things. Personally, from a scale between 1- 10, We rated this story a 9. The story was filled with a meaningful lesson, and also had a high level of appreciation of things we humans take for granted like for instance music, love, and freedom. Even though, The giver was a very fascinating story we would rate it as a 9, because the ending was a little confusing Ö in the last chapter especially!! %Pr
