whoever steve is, i feel sorry for you. this book was completely saturated in meaning, and if you read the book without that in mind, then you must have had a boring time indeed. this is the third novel i have read by steinbeck, and out of the pearl, grapes of wrath, and of mice and men this was by far the best. there were so many connections and meanings that my head felt like it was trying to run in a million directions trying to figure them out. this is a wonderful book. i don't see why it was banned for "portraying mentally handicapped" people unjustly. rather than viewing it was a dumb guy who kills a girl, and seeing just that lennie should die as a result of his actions despite being handicapped, one should look into the real meaning behind what steinbeck wrote, and his underlying message about the human condition and friendship.
do not read this book if you want something quick and easy to understand. to truely get something out of it, you should read it slowly and spend time actually thinking about what was written.
i also wrote this because i am looking up book review from credible sources for a project and i can't find anything anywhere. it is terribly frustrating.
