The Outsider is about two rival gangs in New York. This book starts with Ponyboy coming out of the movie house and getting jumped by the Socs. Then Ponyboy begans to describe the rest of the Greasers. The next day Ponyboy, Johnny, and Dally go to the movie. At the movie Dally flirts with one of the Socs, and Johnny tells him off so he leaves the movie house. At night Johnny and Ponyboy finds themselves sleeping in an empty lot.
When Ponyboy gets home he gets screamed at by his oldest brother, and then get slapped. So he runsaway with Johnny to the park. At the Park the Socs try to drown Ponyboy so Johnny stabs one of them. Then Johnny and Ponyboy both go to see Dally. Dally listens to their story and gives them the supplies they need and send them to a near by town. They stay in that town for a week before Dally comes and get them from the church that they were staying in. When Dally come's to get them he takes them some were to eat. They get back from eating and the church was on fire.
Since the church was on fire. Johnny and Ponny run to the church and they go inside and try to recue the kids that were in it. Ponny gets out and gets slap by Dally. And he blacks out. Later on in the hospital ponny boy woke up and found out the Johnny was burnes really bad on the back.
So Ponny gets all sad and he goes home with his two oldest brothers. They get back home and they get ready for a battle that is about to happen against the Socs. They sit down and pony goes and gets ready for the battle.
They get to the battle and Darry battles his friend from high school football. His friend gets a cheap shot on him and the battle starts. They win the battle, and Ponny goes to the hospital and trys to tell johhny that they won but johhny was dieing slowley. He dies and before he died he told ponny to "STAY GOLD". Then Dally goes and robs a store he gets shot by the police. He dies, Ponny goes home and he gets sick real sick. When he gets better he writes a report on Johnny. The report was the book. THE END
