Some may criticize the reading of this book in public schools today because of the violent behavior of some of Hinton's characters, but I believe the themes are as relevant today as in the 1960s. We still have class distinctions in this country, students still misunderstand and mistreat those who are different, and we still have teenagers who have no responsible, loving adult role models intheir lives.
