8315 writes the following about The Outsiders :

In The Outsiders people misunderstand the greasers and judge them by the clothes they wear and not by the way they act.It is the opposite with the socs.The greasers and the socs also misunderstand each other and that is what leads to the confrontations between them. Some examples are:When people would walk by a greaser they would yell "greaser" at them.Whenever the socs would do something bad,beer blasts it would be blamed on the greasers.When the greasers and socs got into the ble it was blamed on the greasers. I think S.E. Hinton got the idea from where she lived and the people she knew.
