8608 writes the following about The Outsiders :

I thought this book was very good, and it related to the way kids feel today. The theme ?everyone needs to feel accepted? is used in this book, for example. Johnny does not feel accepted by his parents, and neither dose Darry, quote ?I like it better when my dad?s betting up on me, cause then at least he knows I?m there?. Ponyboy feels that he is only accepted by his brother Sodapop, but not his other brother Dally. I also believe that the only reason the greasers and the Soc?s fight is to feel accepted by their group. I recommend this book to every teenager in the 8th grade.
