Matthew Knowlton writes the following about The Giver :
Jonas is a 11 year-old boy in a perfect society. You do what your told and that's that. But when Jonas turns 12 his world is turned upside down. He learns the memories of the world way before they went to "sameness". Jonas wants to make feelings avalible to everyone. So Jonas and The Giver, his mentor, attempts to help the community by restoring feelings and memories to help them relize what thier doing is wrong. Can Jonas change the community? Can he get away with what he's doing? Read The Giver to find out. I LOVED this book, and so will you. It kept my attention through all all the book. I would definently recommend this book. For kids in 5th grade up.
