This book was a great book. I didn't have any problems understanding it, but when it started off by describing all the characters. My favorite scene was when Ponyboy, Dally, and Johnny were at the movies and met Marcia and Cherry. Why? Because they got to have sort of a good time with the girls and even though they knew they were from different sides(socials/greasers) they didn't care because they were just normal people, and socs. and greasers can't change that about them. I also felt sad when it got towards the end when Johnny and Dally died in the same day. I even almost cried when Pony got 'Gone With the Wind' from the hospital and recieved the letter Johnny wrote and he told Pony to tell Dally to stay gold. It was too late. I would rate this book an 8.5. Why? Because most of the book was really good, but the beginning was sort of boring. I think that anybody who can read can read this book because there really isn't anything bad except for some fights, killing, and deaths.
